Customized Statement Earrings for a Destination Wedding

Lovely bride-to-be Leanne contacted me last year in her search for the perfect finishing touch to her bridal look. She had already found her gorgeous gown—a white, mermaid-style dress accented with a crystal belt—as well as a bracelet and headpiece, but wanted a pair of sparkling earrings that would complete her outfit. Leanne had spotted the "Delphinium" earrings in my collection, and they formed the starting point for a custom pair of earrings for her destination wedding in Jamaica.

The gracefully curving vine and flower motif on the Delphinium earrings worked well with her other accessories, but needed to be created in a different color scheme to match her gown. I used a custom-selected mix of white and off-white pearls and beads, as well as pure silk threads in an ivory color, to create Leanne's earrings.

The other requirement in the design memo: more sparkle! Although the original Delphinium earrings had subtle accents of crystals, I increased the sparkle quotient by adding a larger clear crystal to the center of the floral lace motifs, and by embellishing the beaded leaves with tiny, clear Swarovki crystals. The earrings fastened with sterling silver posts inset with glittering cubic zirconia stones. The rhinestones and tiny white glass beads used on the earrings were vintage, dating from the 1950s, instantly adding a traditional "something old, something new" to Leanne's look.

The end result was a dramatic, shoulder-dusting pair of earrings that sparkled, but still retained a delicate feel. Framed with a gorgeous veil and an upswept hairstyle, they completed Leanne's elegant and glamorous wedding day look.

Congratulations to Leanne and Matthew!

The pictures do not do these beauties any justice. I am so very excited to wear these on my wedding day. Ivy was a pleasure to work with, and was even willing to make minor changes to the design so that the earrings matched my other accessories.
